Job Description

For a large-scale industrial construction project in the Antwerp region, we are looking for an experienced SHE Supervisor to oversee and improve safety, health and environmental performance during the construction phase.

In this role, you will be closely involved in the day-to-day work on site. You will ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with applicable safety regulations, legal requirements and project standards. You will work closely with the Construction SHE Manager, the Project Manager, the Construction Manager and the various contractors to ensure a safe working environment.

Your Responsibilities

• You implement and monitor the SHE plan within your project team.

• You oversee site safety and intervene immediately in unsafe situations or acts.

• You monitor daily site activities and check that work, tools and installations are used safely.

• You advise on site layout, accessibility, traffic flows, transport movements and lifting operations.

• You support project leads in resolving safety issues and addressing non-conformities.

• You maintain close contact with contractors and subcontractors to address safety issues promptly.

• You work with the safety coordinator to comply with Belgian regulations for temporary or mobile construction sites.

• You check that contractors, suppliers and other external parties comply with safety and environmental requirements.

• You organise and carry out safety inspections and take part in audits.

• You review risk assessments, work methods, RAMS documents and safe execution plans.

• You monitor environmental monitoring and compliance with permit conditions.

• You report on safety performance and progress to the Construction SHE Manager.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for an experienced safety professional with a strong presence on site and thorough knowledge of safety on complex construction and industrial projects.

You have:

• A qualification in a relevant technical field, together with an appropriate professional accreditation or equivalent qualification.

• Additional training or a qualification in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE).

• More than 15 years’ experience in SHE supervision during the construction of large-scale projects.

• Thorough knowledge of relevant safety guidelines, legislation and industrial safety standards.

• Experience monitoring contractors, carrying out site inspections, reviewing risk assessments and conducting safety audits.

• Knowledge of Belgian regulations on construction site safety. Experience in the Belgian construction sector is a significant advantage.

• A good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

In addition, you are a strong communicator who is analytical and solution-oriented. You are confident making decisions, challenge people over unsafe behaviour and know how to persuade different stakeholders constructively. You work independently, set the right priorities and thrive in an international, multicultural environment.
