Meet Lana Tarroun: Supporting the next generation of engineers at Tekno Kamp
A few weeks ago, Lana joined the jury of Tekno Kamp, an intense 48-hour competition proudly sponsored by Catalay, where teams pushed their creativity and technical skills to the limit.
Their mission? Develop innovative engineering solutions with sustainability at the core.
When we were thinking about who should sit on TeknoKamp's jury this year, Lana's name came up naturally. As a Werkvoorbereider, Lana brings both technical expertise and a deeply human approach to engineering.
With a background in environmental and water engineering, she was the perfect fit to help evaluate innovative student projects tackling real-world challenges.
The daily life of a Werkvoorbereider
As a Werkvoorbereider, no two days are exactly the same for Lana. It’s a role that combines planning, communication, and problem-solving. All essential skills in the world of engineering. She tells you more about her day-to-day below.
Being on the other side of the classroom
What made Lana's presence on the jury so special is that she hasn't forgotten what it's like to be a student. To face a complex problem under pressure, to have your work scrutinised by people with more experience, to have to hold your ground in a room that doesn't yet feel like yours.
Stepping into the jury seat came with its own kind of weight, precisely because she could look at those students and genuinely understand what they were going through.
Innovative ideas and unique approaches
One of the most exciting aspects of Tekno Kamp for Lana was discovering how differently teams approached the same challenge.
The water-focused case study particularly stood out to her because it aligned closely with her educational background. Even when teams started from the same general problem, each group managed to propose a completely unique perspective and solution.
For her, innovation wasn’t only about technical complexity, but also about confidence, clarity and the courage to propose something original.
A full-circle moment
For Lana, joining the TeknoKamp jury was a special experience because she used to participate in similar competitions herself. Having once worked on challenges like these as a student, it was interesting to now evaluate the projects from a different perspective. It also reflects her journey from engineering student to Werkvoorbereider at Catalay. Well-done, Lana!
