About the Role
Our client is looking for a Technical Project Manager – Energy Automation & Protection Systems to strengthen its Electrification & Automation team. In this role, you will act as the technical lead throughout the complete lifecycle of medium- and high-voltage electrification projects, from solution definition and presales activities to engineering, commissioning and customer support. You will support projects in Belgium and selected African countries, contributing to critical energy infrastructure and the energy transition.
The team delivers both Protection & Automation (P&A) projects for medium- and high-voltage substations and medium-voltage switchgear projects, combining electrical engineering, automation, communication networks and digitalization solutions.

You will contribute to the modernization, protection, automation and communication infrastructure of electrical networks for utilities, industries, power plants and data centers. By combining technical expertise and customer engagement, you will help deliver safe, efficient and sustainable power systems.
Role
As a Technical Project Manager, you combine the responsibilities of a Technical Lead Engineer and Solution Architect.
You act as the primary technical point of contact for customers and work closely with Project Managers, Sales teams, technical experts and commissioning specialists.
The Project Manager is responsible for project planning, contractual execution and financial performance, while you are accountable for the definition, engineering and successful technical delivery of the solution.
You are able to translate complex technical challenges into clear and practical solutions for customers and project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
• Act as the technical authority for Protection & Control solutions.
• Define technical architectures and translate customer requirements into fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Coordinate and leverage internal experts whenever specialized technical knowledge is required.
• Support Project Managers in technical risk assessment and technical decision-making.
• Ensure consistency between engineering design, implementation, testing and commissioning activities.
Customer Engagement & Presales
• Analyze customer specifications and identify optimal technical solutions.
• Prepare technical proposals, quotations and cost estimates.
• Lead technical discussions with customers and experts.
• Present and explain complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Serve as the primary technical interface between Siemens and the customer.
Engineering & Delivery
• Perform functional analysis, system design and engineering activities.
• Participate in the engineering and integration of protection relays, local SCADA systems, command & control systems, communication systems and power quality solutions.
• Configure or should be able to manage configuration for protection relays, local SCADA and automation systems.
• Define and execute FAT and SAT activities.
• Support installation, commissioning and start-up activities.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety and technical requirements.
• Define communication network architectures for substation automation and industrial communication systems.
• Design and integrate interfaces between Protection & Control systems, SCADA systems, RTUs and telecommunication networks.
• Prepare engineering documentation and technical drawings packages in collaboration with CAD designers.
• Guide and review the work of CAD designers to ensure compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.
• For smaller projects, develop and update electrical and automation drawings directly when required.
Knowledge Sharing
• Deliver technical training to customers and colleagues.
• Share best practices and contribute to technical competency development.
Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency and project execution.
• Support standardization initiatives and technical innovation.
Profile
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electromechanics.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in MV/HV Protection & Control systems.
• Experience with protection relays and engineering tools such as DIGSI.
• Knowledge of communication protocols used in substation automation systems.
• Knowledge of MV/HV networks, switchgear, protection systems, substation automation systems, industrial Ethernet networks, communication protocols and telecommunication infrastructures.
• Ability to prepare and review engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Fluent in French, Dutch and English.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in hardware and software development for energy automation projects.
• Knowledge of industrial communication networks and telecommunication interfaces used in energy automation systems.
• Understanding of Ethernet network architectures, communication infrastructures and associated networking principles.
• Experience with IEC 61850 environments.
• Experience with Ethernet environements and cybersecurity
• Experience with SCADA, RTU and telecommunication systems.
• Experience within utility environments (DSO/TSO).
• Experience with CAD tools and engineering drawing development.
• International project experience.
